Oribe Ware (織部焼) is a member of the larger Mino-Yaki family. It is known for its rich colors, asymmetric shapes, and bold patterns. This Oribe Chawan in particular highlights its most famous glaze color, a gem-like green. While the nature of the connection is up for scholarly debate, it is said that tea master and apprentice of Sen no Rikyu, Furuta Oribe, exercised some influence over the formation of Oribe Ware in the 17th century.

Its wide, deep shape provides ample room for the Chasen to move back and forth (the movement necessary to produce froth and dissolve the Matcha powder). Its robust shape also sits nicely in both hands. These Chawan are accompanied by a green paperboard gift box for storage.

Please note that each item is exquisitely hand-crafted and unique so the shipped pieces may not exactly match the photo.
