Our Japanese Oolong is grown at Deai Nouen, by farmer Jun Watanabe. Deai Nouen are neighbors of the Sugimoto Tea Company headquarters in Shimada, Shizuoka, and over the years we have developed both a strong professional and personal relationship. We are thrilled to be able to offer this special Japanese Oolong grown by our good friends.

Deai Nouen has over a century of experience in tea cultivation, beginning in 1921. Located near the Ojiro River, in the semi-mountainous area of Shimada, the farm is blessed with several geographical features that provide it with favorable conditions for growing tea. The Ojiro River creates air currents and fog that bring moisture, which lingers in the air thanks to the surrounding mountains creating the perfect level of humidity for the growing tea plants. Deai Nouen pride themselves in their ability to utilize traditional farming techniques while continuing to research and test new farming methods.

This oolong features a spring-harvested blend with a complex and inviting aroma of pear, roasted sweet potato (yakiimo), jasmine, and corn. On the palate, it is smooth and buttery, with flavors of caramel and roasted yams, low astringency, a lingering light umami, and a brisk, refreshing finish.
