Its name, Haruto (春翔), can be read as “soaring into spring,” a fitting image for this early-budding variety. The number 34 is a playful reference, combining midori (green) and yoi (good) to mean “good green.” Medium-steamed, Haruto 34 offers a delicate fruity aroma, soft nuttiness, and gentle sweetness in the cup.

Our Haruto 34 comes from Orio Chūō Chagyō Kumiai in Ei Town, Minamikyūshū City, Kagoshima Prefecture. The tea fields sit on the well-drained, highly permeable Shirasu Plateau, where naturally acidic soils create ideal conditions for tea cultivation. Tea has been cultivated in the Minamikyūshū area for approximately 350 years, and this long history continues today through the region’s dedicated tea growers.

Our Haruto 34 features slender green leaves and a bright green infusion. The aroma combines fresh edamame, dried cranberry and a hint of sunny sea breeze. Its rich, full mouthfeel brings notes of buttered spinach and fiddlehead fern with a sweetness reminiscent of rock sugar and dried fig. A subtle, roasted nuttiness reminiscent of walnut gives the tea a layered finish.

Haruto 34 and Kirari 31 are sibling cultivars, both descended from Saki Midori and Sae Midori. Released together, these two teas offer a chance to taste the different character that can emerge from the same two parent cultivars.
