Koushun, also known as the “Aroma of Shizuoka”, has a unique aroma and a rich, lingering flavor. Once brewed the tea liquor itself is a vibrant spring green. The aroma is fruity and floral with mild notes of Indain spices, such as cardamom and fennel. This spice overtone is also present in the flavor along with a hint of citrus. There is a wonderful harmony between its deep, weighty umami and a light sweetness with no astringency.

This tea is lovingly grown by Saito Yasuhiko Saito on their family farm, Ikumi Mura. Saito’s family has been farming tea since the Edo Period, which started over four centuries ago. He continues the centuries-old tradition of Chagusaba Farming. Through the maintenance and utilization of endemic grasses, this farming method introduces green fertilizers to the tea plants and helps to maintain local biodiversity. Besides a variety of tea cultivars, including past offerings like Shizu-1732 and Benifuuki, he also cultivates sakura, yuzu, and herbal tea on his family farm in the oceanside town of Yaizu, Shizuoka.
